International Orem Society for Nursing Science and Scholarship was incorporated in the State of Missouri in 1991 to serve as a forum on Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory (SCDNT) developed by Dorothea E. Orem. Society founders consist of: Sarah Allison, RN, EdD (USA); Cora Balmat, RN, PhD (USA); Ger Brouns, RN, MSN (The Netherlands); George Evers, RN, PhD (Belgium); Donna Hartweg, RN, PhD (USA); Marjorie Isenberg, RN, DNSc, FAAN (USA); Lynne Nickle, RN, MSN (USA); Dorothea Orem, RN, MSNEd, FAAN, Hon: DSc, DSc, DHL (USA); Marina Senten, RN, PhD (The Netherlands); Hattie Shea, RN, MSN (Canada); and Susan Taylor, RN, PhD, FAAN (USA). The purposes of the Society are to: establish a world-wide network for interaction among nurses interested in Orem's conceptualizations of nursing; expand, refine, and clarify understanding of Orem's conceptualizations of nursing; provide avenues for gathering, organizing, and disseminating knowledge developed in relation to Orem's conceptualizations of nursing; facilitate the use of Orem's conceptualizations of nursing as a basis for nursing education, practice, research, and theory development; advance nursing science by promoting scientific and scholarship activity.
