Alcohol Study files, folders # 12-25, pertain to Baker’s research studies on alcohol. Documents reference “Alcohol Intoxication in the Severely Injured Patient," “Shock Trauma Blood Alcohol Study” and an article titled, “Alcohol Intoxication and Serum Osmolality,” co-authored by Baker. The Medical Examiner’s Office and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medicine (MIEM) collaborated on a study of injury patients admitted to MIEM during 1974-1975 in order to study the relationships between severity of injury, blood alcohol concentration, and survival, as well as the relationship between the rate of metabolism of alcohol and clinical evidence of shock.
