[Series 8] Material Culture related to Vivien Thomas. — There are over 90 items within the series
The Material Culture Series consists of surgical tools used in the dog labs by Vivien Thomas, his office telephone, his academic robe, and the prototype subclavian clamp designed by Thomas for use in the first blue baby surgery in 1944. Other items related to but not part of the collection include the first defibrillators developed at Johns Hopkins of which Thomas was part of the team, posters from the HBO movie “Something the Lord Made” and the PBS documentary “Partners of the Heart” and the replica paintings of Mos Def and Alan Rickman as Vivien Thomas and Alfred Blalock used in the HBO film.
