[Folder] A Low Cost Treadmill for Experimental Animals. — 1954
Dr. Kouwenhoven and others invented a dog treadmill for use in their research laboratory and wrote the paper found in this folder describing how to build this instrument. It was accepted for publication in the Journal of Applied Physiology.

Correspondence relating to Dr. Kouwenhoven's attendance at this meeting and a draft of the paper he will present there ("A proposal for the Support of a Research Project on the Effects of Exposure to High Intensity Electric Fields") are found in this folder.

Materials in this folder relate to a meeting of the Edison Electric Institute's Accident Preventiion Committee during which Dr. Kouwenhoven presented a proposal for "An Investigation of Possible Harmful Effects of Long Term Exposure to Electric Fields Alternating Sinusoidally at 60 Hertz." His hand written notes for the proposal and related research materials are included, as well as correspondence about the topic.

This folder contains correspondence about a paper written by Dr. Kouwenhoven for the American Institute of Electrical Engineers entitled "Electric Defibrillation," a discussion of the paper by another engineer and Kouwenhoven's response to the discussion.

Materials from the February, 1958 AIEE Committee on Safety meeting, including a paper presented by Dr. Kouwenhoven entitled "Relative Hazard of 240 Versus 120 Volt A.C. Shocks" are included in this folder.

[Folder] American College of Physicians Award Distinguished Contributions . — 1969
In April of 1968 Dr. Kouwenhoven was presented The American College of Physicians Medal for distinguished contributions in Science as related to Medicine. The program for the meeting as well as the paper Dr. Kouwenhoven presented are found in this extensive folder. Included are various stages of editing of the paper, entitled "The Development of the Defibrillator," it's final version and correspondence related to its being published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The paper is a personal account of Dr. Kouwenhoven's role in the development of the defibrillator and the history of the device.

Dr. Kouwenhoven participated in a Public Utility Safety Director's Short Course sponsored by the Southeastern Electrical Exchange and held at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. This folder contains the program listing Dr. Kouwenhoven's topic as "Resuscitation" and a copy of a paper by another presenter on Pole-Top Safety.

This folder contains the first 2 parts of an Edison Electric Institute project examining the progress in understanding the effects of electric current on the human body. Dr. Kouwenhoven is one of three authors.

This folder contains parts 3 and 4 of an Edison Electric Insitute two year project examining the effects of electric current on the human body. Dr. Kouwenhoven was one of the two scientists who wrote the reports.

It's a discussion of the effects of electric shock on the human body and the recent work of Dr. Louise Robinovith is using electric shock to resuscitation a patient.
