The Mission of the
Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives


The mission of the Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives is to advance the following:

The mandated functions of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions (health care delivery, research, education and training) through the selection, preservation, and use of archival holdings;


Knowledge in the health fields through making archival holdings available for use outside the Johns Hopkins community whenever legal, regulatory, and ethical conditions permit.


Collecting Objectives


Holdings of the Alan Mason Chesney Medical Archives are to fulfill the following criteria:

Support the current activities of the Medical Institutions

Commemorate the role of the Medical Institutions in the history of medicine, nursing, and public health

Serve as primary source material for research

Serve as tools for education and training
